Uganda Women’s Network (UWONET) is an advocacy and lobbying network of national women’s NGOs and individuals operating in Uganda. Their work centers on amplifying women’s voices, promoting gender equity, and driving policy change through grassroots engagement and national dialogue.
We’ve had the privilege of collaborating with UWONET on multiple projects that use performance and storytelling to highlight social issues affecting women and youth. Over the years, these creative partnerships have allowed us to bring humor, relatability, and urgency to conversations that matter. Our shared goal has been to use creative platforms to amplify voices that are often overlooked in public discourse.

In 2019, we joined UWONET in commemorating International Youth Day, which began with a community marathon organized to mobilize youth around the theme of peace-building and social awareness. The run brought together young people from across Kampala and set the tone for a day of engagement and advocacy. Later that morning, we participated in a Youth Dialogue held at Makerere University, Freedom Square, where our team developed and performed skits addressing unpaid care work, domestic labor, and sexual harassment in institutions of higher learning, helping spark meaningful engagement among students and educators.

In 2021, we partnered again – this time at Kalerwe Market – as part of UWONET’s “Strengthening the Rights of Market Women” initiative. Alongside fellow comedians, we created skits that portrayed the everyday challenges faced by women vendors, from limited access to credit and unfair treatment by market authorities to broader issues of gender equity in informal trade. These performances helped foster dialogue between vendors, community leaders, and the public.
Our work with UWONET reflects a shared commitment to using creative expression as a tool for advocacy, education, and empowerment.
